Part 1 : Club Med Phuket - Day 1

Journal Entry 230

Last month, we escaped the city life & went on a trip to Club Med Phuket. Holiday Tours had a promotion during MATTA and since it cost around 1700 per pax, it was a 'go' for us ! Called upon Jo, Kok,Val and Uncle Bernard too !

The comfortable sofas
Well, I have long heard about Club Med but yours truly had not really had the chance to experience it. Ideally, it suits me as it is a lazy man's holiday - all you need is to pay one price, eat all you can and play all you can as it includes everything under the sun ! We arrived at Phuket Airport around 3pm & we finally reached Club Med at Karon beach an hr later. Very very far from the town though.

The group !
In Club Med, the guests are called Gentle Members (GM) and we were being escorted by our assigned GO (Gentle Officer) when we reached.  Went to the lobby and in line with the Thai culture, the place were decorated with some contemporary Thai element with a few Buddha statues nearby . Done with our check-ins, our GO took us on a small tour with a short briefing about the club.

A little pond
After the briefing, we then proceed to our rooms. The walks to our rooms were really far and I must say that it was indeed a very huge place ! Our rooms were on the 3rd floor. Very basic, clean room. The drawback however would be the air-con. It was really hot - even if it was on full blast ! I guess that that was the only complaint we had ! We changed and had a good bath.

The superior room

Cleaned, we went back to the lobby area again and headed for the bar. Free flow of cocktails and we decided to try each of it every day. Anyhow, there were certain cocktails and wines that were chargeable . Guess what ! Before we could get our stomachs bloated with liquor, it was already time for dinner. There were about 4-5 rooms available for dining and all were full by dinner time.

Food at Club Med were simply amazing ! It was definitely of  international standard & indeed a wonderful gourmet experience with different varieties from countries all over. Some were even plated nicely and it had a fine dining taste to it. Just spoilt for choices, I guess. I had to stop for a moment to decide on what I should get first . There were just way too many things to lay my finger on :)....Wine Lovers : There is also a free flow of both white and red wine during buffets (of course not the premium ones)

The food selections that we had !!

We had dinner for almost an hr or so before we went back to the bar area to get more drinks. Also, there were performance by the GOs every night with it's own theme tied to it. Shows starts at 9pm and we quickly grab our drinks so that we could be on time to enjoy the performance. Lasted for an hr and since it was our 1st night there, we decided to chill around the lounge area and at the same time, plan the next day's activity.

The bar

Called it a night at 11 and again, it was a long walk back to the room.

Stay tuned for the activities we had there on my next entry !
