Finale : Day 6 & 7: Melbourne CBD : Parliament House, St Paul Cathedral, Fitzroy Garden, The Shrine of Remembrance & City Circle
Journal Entry 153
Day 6 and that marks the end of our trip Down Under. In total, the trip was 7 days and 5 nights with one night on board the plane.
It was again a relaxing day for us as the said day is being allocated for the city's sightseeing and places of interest. We had the privilege to wake up late as it was just going to be a city tour. Done with breakfast, we went up the van and first stop was at the Parliament of Victoria. Took a few snapshots outside as we were not allowed to enter the building :(

Took about 10 minutes there and our next stop was the St Patrick's Cathedral. It was definitely a beautiful building and is being designed based on the Gothic style of the 14th century. This time, we were allowed to go in the cathedral and of course, managed to get a glimpse of the wonderful interior inside the building. Yippie !

A bit dark though :(

All in all, we took about 30 minutes before we proceed to our next destination, Fitzroy Garden. It is definitely a beautiful landscaped garden which was located at the South Eastern edge of Melbourne CBD- just a few minutes from the cathedral. Also. there is a conservatory and Cook's cottage within the garden itself. Our guide told us that the cottage (home of James Cook's parents) was transported from Yorkshire, England to Australia. Isn't that just amazing ? Anyway, having said that , we tour around the garden & ended it with a visit to the conservatory. These wonderful, magnificent indoor floral displays is being changed 5 times yearly and that explains why the flowers look simply refreshing :).
Tulips - missed the Tulip Festival this time around

After spending some time there, we continued our drive to Federation Square and of course, the famous Flinders Station to get a few quick snapshots there.
Flinders Street Station
Done with Flinders Street Station, we continued to The Shrine of Remembrance which was located in Kings Domain on St Kilda Road. It was basically built as a memorial to the men and women in Victoria who had served in World War 1. The whole place consists of two floors altogether and it was huge. Spent about an hour there as we look thru both the interior and exterior of the said building.

With that, it marks the end of our guided tour around Melbourne city and we were then left on free and easy mode for the rest of the day. Had a quick 'dim sum' lunch before our tour guide dropped us at the South Wharf DFO for more shopping. Again, didn't bought much and went window shopping instead. Waited for the rest of the tour group member before we went on a ride on the City Circle tram.Took a few photos here and there before we went back to wash up for dinner.

It was dinner time and again, we went to Crown to have our dinner and took the chance to catch up with Abbie (hubby's collegemate) whom they have known for yrs. She had just migrated to Melbourne and it was just pure coincidence that she saw hubby's Facebook post and got to know that we were in Melbourne for 2 days. She took us to the St Kilda beach and we had a glimpse of the night life there. Indeed a lovable lady !
Ended the day with Abbie dropping us at the hotel.
Packed and slept thru the night to prepare ourselves for our flight back to Penang the very next day. It has been indeed an enjoyable 7 days in Australia and trust me, I will be coming back for more !!
Tata !!
With this, I will now leave you with a clip from the Unfold 2 - with the highlights of Melbourne City.
