The Euro Diary : Day 1 & 2 :Switzerland (Zurich, Engelberg & Lucerne)

Journal Entry 170

Well, I have finally made it ! A little girl's dream. I had always wanted to travel to Europe & I must say that the feeling of being there was so surreal & superb ! Loved it !

It was a 10 days Central Europe trip and yes, it was a very packed trip with us visiting 6 countries within the given period. Hubs was a bit doubtful of the itinerary in terms of coverage but looking at his wife's  'Please LET ME GO or I WILL KILL YOU' face, he  gladly  signed for the trip during the travel fair. Hahaha ! Battle half won :):). So, we waited for 2 months till the day arrived for us to pack & go go go !

Ready to board the night flight : Changi Airport

Excited as always, all of us (about 40 of us) met at the airport at about 7pm for a night flight .Yes, you hear me - 40 OF US ! ! That was a double blow for hubs - a 10 days trip with 40 of us - it was going to be a disaster !! Well, I just smiled back to his disbelief face (hahaha). So, we endured a 13 hrs flight with SQ (glad that we flew with the A380 with wifi (chargeable ok !!) to Zurich. Did not managed to get that much sleep due to the time difference.

Arrived & our coach was already waiting for us. Got a very helpful German bus driver :). It was close to noon when we reached Zurich & temperature was around 18 degrees. We continued our journey  to Engelberg for a cable car ride to Mt Titlis (10,000 ft above sea level).  It was an hr or so from Zurich and the view at the resort was just amazing ! In fact, it is one of the top ski destinations in Europe and NO, we did not ski !!

One of the house/resort as we reached Engelberg

Reached Engelberg and went up to Mt Titlis (a mountain in the Urner Alps of Switzerland). Well, it may not be as majestic as Mt Fuji but you can basically get a panoramic view of the Swiss Alps up at the peak. It overlooks Engelberg and is famous for the world's first revolving cable car (The Rotair). You just need to stand where you are and it will rotate 360 degrees as you go up and up. Interesting, isn't it :). Reached the top, had lunch and took a few photos here and there.

Both the view up and down the mountain were simply breathtaking !

As we go up

Just us

I am at the top !!

On our way up

On our way down :Engelberg town - love the lush green grass from above !

Our way down - the rain stopped :)

With the visit to the Alps done, we proceed to Lucerne town for window shopping (more watches and chocolates) & also got a glimpse of the Chapel bridge. As it was still drizzling, we didn't really manage to get a snap of the bridge- a bit too dark & time was a bit limited. Anyway, we walked thru the alley & went window shopping here and there with the time we had.

All done, we checked into our hotel which was quite nearby to Old town. Washed up and had dinner at the hotel. Since we had been travelling the whole day with lack of sleep, we opt out for a night stroll - and slept like a boss instead.
